Updated Recommendations for GM, Ford, and RAM Pickup Applications

At STAHL, we understand how important it is to spec the right hitch for each service body application. With increasing demand for GM truck upfits, we’re sharing important updates on hitch compatibility—especially for Challenger ST (CST) 98, 110, and 134 bodies—to help ensure smooth installations and proper fitment across all major truck brands.

CST Hitch Options

STAHL currently offers two hitch models for CST service bodies:

  • 242204 – Class 5 Hitch
    • 2.5” Receiver
    • 15,000 lbs. Towing Capacity
    • 2,000 lbs. Tongue Weight
  • 235205 – Class 4 Hitch
    • 2” Receiver
    • 10,000 lbs. Towing Capacity
    • 1,000 lbs. Tongue Weight

These options are designed for different capacity needs and receiver preferences. The Class 5 is our standard go-to for most heavy-duty applications unless otherwise requested.

Important Notes on GM Pickup Applications

We’ve seen an increase in GM 56” Cab to Axle truck orders, especially with factory box deletes. Here’s what you need to know:

  • GM Box Delete Trucks may arrive without the OEM hitch provision if not ordered correctly.
  • Our original Class 5 Hitch (242204) and the GM mounting brackets were not designed to work together.
  • Engineering has already processed updates to correct this, but new inventory won’t be available until Q4.

What to Do Until Then

For GM trucks, here are the recommended steps:

  • When ordering a GM box delete truck:
    Always select the OEM Hitch option to ensure compatibility.
  • If the truck is already missing the hitch:
    Contact GM Parts to try ordering the OEM hitch separately.
  • Need an immediate solution?
    Use our Class 4 Hitch (235205) as a temporary alternative.

Hitch Application Guide

Below is a general guide for standard CST applications. For liftgate or crane installs, contact STAHL Engineering for custom solutions.

56” Cab to Axle Trucks (CST 98 Bodies)

Ford & RAM

  • Use the OEM hitch with OEM brackets.
  • If missing, try ordering the OEM hitch from Ford or RAM Parts.
  • If that’s not possible, special engineering is required—no standard hitch option is available.

GM

  • Use the OEM hitch with OEM brackets.
  • If missing, try ordering the hitch from GM Parts.
  • If unavailable:
    • Use Class 4 Hitch (235205) until updated stock arrives.
    • Once available, begin using Class 5 Hitch (242204).

60” & 84” Cab to Axle Trucks (CST 110 & 134 Bodies)

  • Default: Use Class 5 Hitch (242204)
  • If the customer needs a smaller receiver or lighter capacity, use Class 4 Hitch (235205)
