Changes to Challenger ST Bodies Driven by 2020 GM Truck Changes

Changes to Challenger ST Bodies
Driven by 2020 GM Truck Changes

Wooster, Ohio (Sept 5, 2019) – General Motors has introduced changes on their 2020 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra ¾-ton and 1-ton long bed pickup trucks that have a significant impact on truck body manufacturers and truck equipment up-fitters. We have highlighted the modifications Stahl has made to its service body offering in order to address the changes to these new GM trucks. It also explains the impact the Stahl modifications have when spec’ing and ordering service bodies.

The first big change to the 2020 GM trucks is in the cab-to-axle dimension. GM decreased the cab-to-axle dimension on ¾-ton and 1-ton long bed trucks from 56-inches down to 55-inches. This shorter cab-to-axle dimension will require a new “GM-specific” set of fender panels for CST98 service bodies. These new GM fenders have the cutout shifted forward so that the rear tire remains centered within the radius.

As has been the case with Stahl Challenger ST fender panels in the past, they are a bolt-on design and can be switched with minimal effort. So, if you have CST98 bodies in inventory and sell one for a 2020 GMC/Chevy application, the new GM-specific fender panels can be ordered from Stahl and easily installed on your stock body. For future body orders, simply let the Stahl salesperson know that the body being ordered is for a 2020 GMC/Chevy application and the proper fenders will be shipped on the unit from the factory.

Stahl has created the two new kits below to address the fender panel issue on the 2020 GM’s. Both kits come with both a curbside and a streetside panel.

  • New GM Fender Panel Kits

  • New GM Mounting Bracket Kit

  • New GM Adapter Plug

Please contact your Stahl sales representative if you have any questions about the 2020 GM chassis changes, or how the new Stahl kits apply to those changes. To learn more, call toll free 1-800-277-8245 or email us

STAHL Backup Cameras

STAHL Backup Cameras and Mounting Kits
Assist with FMVSS 111 Compliance

Backup Camera KitsWooster, Ohio (May 1, 2018) – On May 1, 2018, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 111 went into effect, which includes new requirements for backup cameras on all vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) under 10,000 lbs., including ¾-ton pickup trucks. To assist with FMVSS 111 compliance, STAHL, a Scott Fetzer Company, offers backup cameras and backup camera mounting kits for Ford, GM and RAM trucks.

“Because our backup camera kits integrate seamlessly with OEM factory-installed video display screens, they provide an excellent backup camera option without adding another video screen inside the vehicle,” said Craig Moses, STAHL’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

STAHL backup cameras with mounting bracket kits may be purchased as loose kits or installed. Mounting bracket kits may also be purchased separately. If the vehicle tailgate is removed to accommodate a liftgate, the backup camera kit should be ordered from the liftgate manufacturer.

To ensure compliance, rear vision systems must be tested to verify field of view. A FMVSS 111 Field of View Conformity Manual and Kit are available from NTEA, the national association for the work truck industry, at ntea.com/mvss111rearvisibility.
