Engineering Bulletin: Service Body Lighting Upgrade
To all STAHL Distributors
Models Affected: All STAHL Service Bodies
As STAHL Engineering continues to find ways to make the installation of our service bodies easier and faster for our customers, we are excited to share that an update to STAHL’s service body lighting will be releases on June 1, 2023. The changes will include:- Updated license plate lighting. We are updating our license plate lighting from (1) incandescent light to (2) LED lights. The snap-in light design will improve visibility and cut installation time.
- Provisions to mount stop/tail/turn lights in either the body or the bumper. We will start pre-punching both the body and the bumper to allow the installation of the stop/tail/turn light assemblies in either location. This will save installers the time currently required to cut out and touch up holes when body mounted lights are desired.
- The ability to cover up unused lighting holes. STAHL will now provide a molded reflective carrier to be installed into whichever pre-punched hole (body or bumper) that is not utilized by the stop/tail/turn light assembly. These two reflector placements are confirmed to meet federal requirements and are recommended by STAHL. Please see the pictures and notes below.

Changes to Challenger ST Bodies Driven by 2020 GM Truck Changes
Changes to Challenger ST Bodies
Driven by 2020 GM Truck Changes
Wooster, Ohio (Sept 5, 2019) – General Motors has introduced changes on their 2020 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra ¾-ton and 1-ton long bed pickup trucks that have a significant impact on truck body manufacturers and truck equipment up-fitters. We have highlighted the modifications Stahl has made to its service body offering in order to address the changes to these new GM trucks. It also explains the impact the Stahl modifications have when spec’ing and ordering service bodies.
The first big change to the 2020 GM trucks is in the cab-to-axle dimension. GM decreased the cab-to-axle dimension on ¾-ton and 1-ton long bed trucks from 56-inches down to 55-inches. This shorter cab-to-axle dimension will require a new “GM-specific” set of fender panels for CST98 service bodies. These new GM fenders have the cutout shifted forward so that the rear tire remains centered within the radius.
As has been the case with Stahl Challenger ST fender panels in the past, they are a bolt-on design and can be switched with minimal effort. So, if you have CST98 bodies in inventory and sell one for a 2020 GMC/Chevy application, the new GM-specific fender panels can be ordered from Stahl and easily installed on your stock body. For future body orders, simply let the Stahl salesperson know that the body being ordered is for a 2020 GMC/Chevy application and the proper fenders will be shipped on the unit from the factory.
Stahl has created the two new kits below to address the fender panel issue on the 2020 GM’s. Both kits come with both a curbside and a streetside panel.

New GM Mounting Bracket Kit
New GM Adapter Plug
