5 Spring Maintenance Tips for Your Service Truck Body

5 Easy Spring Maintenance Tips for Your Service Truck Body

To keep your business running, you’ve got to keep your equipment working. Don’t forget about your truck body! Your mobile workstation needs attention too because you use it every day, so it must be in tiptop shape. Here’s a quick set of tips for some spring maintenance to maximize the longevity of your service truck body.

Lube

  • Grease all hinges and latches every 3 to 6 months. Without lubrication, hinges can eventually bind and bend, and the doors might twist off center and even stick. For your STAHL truck body, we recommend using a lithium-based grease. Lithium-complex greases generally possess good stability, high-temperature characteristics and water-resistance properties. These can be found at any auto parts shop. If you find a hinge or latch that is worn out and in need of replacement, get STAHL-manufactured parts sent directly to you from Amazon.

Wash

  • Wash it! This might be a no-brainer, but your truck body deals with a lot of dirt, and if you really want to get the most out of your investment, give it a good wash regularly. Dirt, grime, salt and more can break down your body causing rust and rot. Periodic washing of everything, not just the sides and the bed, but the underbody and wheel wells as well, will ensure that you remove those harmful substances before they cause problems.

Inspect Paint

  • After washing, visually inspect the truck body for dings in the paint. If you see some serious scratches, your body could be in danger of developing rust in that area. STAHL truck bodies are covered with a powder coat paint that is resistant to scratches and dings, but we do know that they can happen. If they do, get a touch-up kit directly from us to ensure good adhesion and best protection for your body. Give us a call at 1.800.277.8245 or email info@stahltruckbodies.com to order.

Protect Body

  • Protect your body’s bed. If you drag materials across it, you run the risk of deep gouges and more, so consider investing in a protective bed liner. When buying a new truck body, you can add that on as an option so it’ll be set and ready when you pick it up. Talk to your local distributor about it.

Inspect Electrical

  • Inspect all electrical connectors and mounting hardware once a year. You don’t want to be driving around without your taillights, so make sure those connectors are sound and functioning properly. Don’t forget to inspect the mounting hardware on the shelving inside your truck body. Tighten up any loose nuts and give everything on the interior a good wipedown as well!
With these 5 easy tips, you can ensure that the money you invested in your truck body won’t go to waste, and it will serve you for years and years! Having a truck body that lasts means buying from a manufacturer with the reputation of quality and durability in the long run, and there’s a reason STAHL truck bodies have been trusted by contractors, construction companies, municipalities and more for over 75 years.
